In a heartbreaking incident that has sent shockwaves through the community of Pokuase in Mayera, a 12-year-old boy named Justice Akako was allegedly killed on Sunday by neighbors.
The incident has left the community in mourning and has prompted swift action from local authorities.
The neighboring houses involved in the incident were reportedly close-knit, with the residents being more like family friends. The children from both households often visited each other's homes, and the parents enjoyed cordial relationships.
In a heartwarming gesture, young Justice would send cassava and plantain peels from his home to feed the neighbors' goats. He would even go out to find food for the goats when there was none available in his own house.
On that fateful Sunday, Justice's mother, a trader, went to the market to purchase goods, leaving her children in the care of their father at home.
The father was cooking, and Justice was assisting him when suddenly, the young boy vanished without a trace. As the family prepared to leave for church, they realized that Justice was missing.
They searched desperately but could not find him. Even their neighbors claimed to have not seen him.
It was a neighbor's CCTV camera that provided a crucial clue.
The camera footage showed a car disposing of something in a sack near the house. When news spread that Justice was missing, the family contacted the police, who discovered a human body in the sack. Tragically, it was identified as Justice Akako.
According to reports, two children from the suspected family, aged 17 and 15, approached a man, who is believed to be a mechanic, to help them open a car trunk.
They claimed their parents were not at home. Oblivious to the fact that the boy was missing, the man assisted them and then left. Only later did he learn about the incident and went straight to the affected family's house to inquire if the news was true.
It was then that they were informed of the discovered body, and the mechanic accompanied them to identify it.
The police have taken over the crime scene and are diligently investigating the case.
They are also ensuring the area is protected to prevent tampering with any potential evidence that could be used in court.
Meanwhile, the devastated parents have made an emotional appeal to the Inspector General of Police and the Ghana Police Service, urging them to ensure that justice is served. Though they know it cannot bring back their son, they hope for some measure of peace through the legal process.
Local authorities, including the Member of Parliament and District Chief Executive for the area, have been actively engaged with the Ghana Police, emphasizing the importance of swift justice.
The MP has assured the community that the case will be pursued diligently and expeditiously.
As the investigation continues, the Pokuase community remains in mourning, united in their demand for justice for young Justice Akako
